ASABE International Meeting
Irfan Ahmad attended the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) Annual International Meeting in Providence, RI from June 29-July 2, 2008; where he chaired a session on internationally funded projects with developing countries. Nanomedicine for Cancer research emanating from the USAID-Higher Education Commission of Pakistan Project was presented by graduate student Sherine George, involving Ken Watkin (AHS), Brian Cunningham, Irfan Ahmad, UIUC; and Atiya Abbasi, University of Karachi.

Shun Lien Chuang, the Robert C. MacClinchie Distinguished Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, received a 2008 Humboldt Research Award for Senior U.S. Scientists.

Cunningham gives invited presentation in Germany
Brian T. Cunningham, an Associate Professor in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and a resident faculty of the Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory gave an invited presentation at the Society for Biomolecular Sciences Symposium on Label-Free Technologies in Dresden, Germany on June 11, 2008. The title of the talk was "Optical Resonators for Label-Free Detection: Photonic Crystals, Microrings, and Lasers."
